Indian almond leaves, also known as Catappa leaves, are a trusted natural additive for freshwater aquariums. Rich in tannins and beneficial compounds, they help lower pH, combat harmful bacteria, and create blackwater conditions that mimic the natural habitats of bettas, shrimp, apistogrammas, and other soft-water species. These leaves support fin healing, reduce stress, and encourage spawning. As they break down, they also provide food for shrimp and fry by encouraging biofilm growth. Use 1 full-size leaf per 5–10 gallons of water, depending on the desired strength. Leaves will slowly release tannins and can be left in the tank until fully decomposed or replaced every 2–3 weeks. Each leaf is naturally sun-dried, chemical-free, and safe for all tropical aquariums. Indian almond leaves are a simple, effective way to boost the health and well-being of your aquatic pets while recreating the beauty of a natural blackwater ecosystem.
