Add one of the most unique aquatic plants in the hobby to your aquarium with Aponogeton madagascariensis, commonly known as the Madagascar Lace Plant. This striking freshwater plant is famous for its delicate, lattice-like leaves that create a beautiful lace or mesh appearance.

You will receive a Madagascar Lace bulb — not a mature plant.

Bulbs may arrive dormant, beginning to sprout, or with some existing roots and leaves. The growth stage will naturally vary from bulb to bulb.

Planting Instructions

Place the bulb into aquarium substrate with the growing end facing upward.

Do not completely bury the bulb. Leave the upper portion exposed above the substrate to help reduce the risk of rot.

Once established, the bulb will develop roots and begin producing its distinctive lace-patterned leaves.

What to Expect

The bulb you receive will be much smaller than the mature plants shown in the photos. Mature plant photos and the growth progression image are provided to show how the plant can develop over time.

New leaves may initially appear more solid or less dramatically perforated, with the characteristic lace structure becoming more noticeable as the plant develops.

Natural Dormancy

Like other Aponogeton species, Madagascar Lace may experience periods of slower growth or dormancy. Older leaves can die back before the bulb resumes producing new growth.

Because this is a natural live product, bulb size, shape, color, roots, sprouts, and existing growth will vary.
